Beta-Sitosterol Description:
Beta-Sitosterol is one of several phytosterols with chemical structures similar to that of cholesterol. Beta-Sitosterol is white in colour and waxy in nature. Beta-Sitosterol is widely distributed in the plant kingdom and found in black cumin seed[1]Nigella Sativa, pecans, Serenoa repens (saw palmetto), avocados, Curcurbita pepo (pumpkin seed), Pygeum africanum, cashew fruit, rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils, soybeans, sea-buckthorn and wolfberries.
Alone and in combination with similar phytosterols, β-sitosterol reduces blood levels of cholesterol, and is sometimes used in treating hypercholesterolemia. One small study shows a positive effect on male hair loss in combination with Saw palmetto. In Europe, β-sitosterol plays a major role in treatment of herbal therapy of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). Beta-Sitosterol is also used in Europe for the treatment of prostatic carcinoma and breast cancer, although the benefits are still being evaluated in the US.
Beta-Sitosterol Function:
1.Pygeum africanum extract can inhibit benign prostatic hypertrophy and cancer of the prostate.
2.Pygeum africanum extract has the function of restoring secretory activity of prostate epithelium.
3.Pygeum africanum extract also can be used for incontinence, urine retention, polyuria or frequent urination, dysuria.
4.Pygeum africanum extract can protect the bladder smooth muscle against cellular damage caused by ischemia and reperfusion.
5.Pygeum africanum extract can clear bladder neck urethral obstruction, significantly improve urologic symptoms and flow measures.
